CHARACTER NOTES
| Alison - INEXPERIENCED GIRL - the character you wish your listeners to fall in love with. - sympathetic, starting-out, endearing, attractive, makes mistakes but is rescued, is helped by all, comes from 'out there' (not urban and sophisticated). BUT - she has some key abilities - the professional job she is hired to do (manager of 'The Beauty Spot'). She just lacks experience with people, with men, and with urban life. |
| Roxanne (Roxy) - FEISTY GIRL - energetic, dynamic, full of one-liners, aggressive, selfish, reckless, immoral (as far as you want to push it), powerful, very attractive. IN CONFLICT WITH - the BOSS, other FEMALES, and those MEN she despises. In every situation, she will think of herself first and be selfish, and attack others. But she is very capable and drives things on. She gets into terrible situations, but by her sharp intelligence, and connections, she can rescue others. She has great fashion sense. |
| Rico - STREETWISE BOY - Confident, cocky, cool, but not as successful and knowledgeable as he thinks he is, full of energy. He is really scared by the rat in Episode 13. Is he 'urban'? That is over to the actor and working with the actor, and his strengths. And to get the special creative flavour that the actor can bring. He does not have to be 'urban' in a narrow way. He can be middle-class. Just as long as we get the wheeling-and-dealing. Rico is ready to contract with the VILLAIN (9-3, 10-4, 12-1). Think parallels in films and TV - the various STREETWISE STUDENTS in the Scream films, joking about sex, having sex, but with a dangerous streak (and more). And in TV's 'Green Wing', Dr Guillaume Secretan (played by Stephen Mangan) perpetually bragging about his sexual experiences, always coming on to the new arrival (woman), betting, endlessly duelling with the other Alpha-Male (and losing), but easily put on the defensive by any sharp enquiry about his personal life. |
| Ben - INNOCENT BOY - Puppy-dog charm, attractive, and he is the character the listeners want to mother. He very good on one subject - chemistry. Easily frightened. In love with Alison. Rico is his best friend, and he is Rico's best friend, but it is a fraught relationship. Teased a lot by Rico. Awed by women. Think the MOST SYMPATHETIC MALE HEROES in American teen films, the 'nice' boy, who does not get to have sex (think 'Scream'). Get his earnestness, his energy, and make him sympathetic. |
| Fitness and weights instructor -'PT' - Really more brawn than brain - - he loves himself, kisses his "guns" (biceps) etc - called "the efficiency machine" though he is not efficient at his job! - - obviously PT has a brain, but he can't apply himself well - in PURPLE, we discover that he has a midnight dip in the swimming pool with his boss, JT, and PT are 'intimate' together, and the poor man gets dyed purple, and tries unsuccessfully to wash this off. |
