Radio Drama is the key to many media and creative jobs.
Realistically, there are very few Radio Drama Directors in this world. They are very skilled. And a full-time job rarely comes up. Often, Directors have made their way through excellent theatre experience, and/or film and TV. They bring all these other skills to the Radio job, along with casting and producing (business) skills. However, the good news is that having some radio drama pieces on your CV shows you are unusual and - I hope - talented. It should bring your application towards the top of the pile. You will show many skills - director and producer, and post-production. Radio drama is the basis, or a creative approach, to many aspects of the media, and especially advertising.
You want to be a radio actor? Find out what requirements there are for auditioning. If for professional production, an Equity card and some professional experience will be required, normally. Go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/, and type in 'audition' in the search. See my book - Beck, Alan, Radio Acting, London: A & C Black (1997) Make the most of this site and you can encourage radio drama production to add to your CV. Clips from radio play productions will be great for your VOICE CD - examples of your work when you apply for voice-over auditions, radio drama auditions, etc.
