STANDARDIZING FILE NAMES - efficient system, as film
Set up a system of naming the FXs in SOUND BOX - production sound effects archive
Use numbers and letters (in lower case) as 033v001 and 033take1
Each scene is numbered. So the file for Scene 33 is 033. For EPISODES within the Soap (Serial Drama), say, Episode 3 Scene 5, it's 003-005. The FIRST DRAFT (meaning work so far in POSTPRODUCTION mixing of dialogue and atmos and FXs) of Scene 33 is 033v001. (The 'v' here is from film editing, and means 'version').
The FIRST DRAFT of Episode 3 Scene 5, it's 003-005v001.
Smaller files within Scene 033 are numbered like this: 033-1, 033-2, 033-4 etc. (Or whatever smaller file system makes sense to you.) DROP-INS: Use the line number in the script, for a take which is a drop in. For Episode 3 Scene 5 line 12 (in the script), it's 003-005-line12 (or whatever system makes sense to you). FIRST TAKE OF A SCENE: The first take of Scene 33 is 033take1.The FIRST TAKE of Episode 3 Scene 5 is 003-005take001. All letters should be small case - as 'outbreath-emily-1' (outbreath, emily (the character's name) - first example) Always use the character's name. This is standard professional practice. Also, you are guided by the script.
Never use the actor's name. Gets confusing.
USUAL COMPUTER PROCEDURE APPLIES: back up everything. If a file is lost, or corrupted, you go to the back up. PROCEDURE FOR COPYING AND PASTING A FILE FROM SOUND BOX THREE PHASES OF PRODUCTION - PRE-PRODUCTION, PRODUCTION, POSTPRODUCTION
