Do not choose a 'boxed-in' character
Your character must not be someone who is relatively motionless, or lacking in energy or so 'boxed in' that you cannot show a range of acting techniques. Beware of characters in depression - they may have a lot to say about what is going on in their heads - but this can allow little action. (Think of some examples from Sarah Kane's plays.) Character is shown in action. There is not much to explore in a 'boxed-in' character.
