'Crime Crackers' Episode 17
4.2.1
FX WILL FOLLOW THE JOURNEY TO THE THEME PARK UNDER THE DIALOGUE
LAVINIA A million things went through my mind as I travelled in his car; mainly what the hell was I doing here? I had only known Devon for five minutes but here we were. We sped our way through the night's traffic on our way to god knows what, I guess it's just the detective in me that can't resist the idea of a good case. Devon didn't speak much during the journey to the park; he just muttered curses at the slow changing lights and pedestrians crossing the street. When we finally arrived at the park there was an air of creepy calm about the place, there was a sign at the entrance declaring the park had been shut due to technical problems. We made our way through the mass of tunnels that criss-crossed underneath the park to the control room. I didn't know what was going to meet me when we walked through those doors but I knew things were going to get much stranger.
FX BUSY OFFICE ATMOS, PHONES RINGING ETC. GENERAL CHAOS
DREW You took your time getting here Devon, all hell's broken loose.
DEVON I was on a date when you called.
DREW She's a little old for you isn't she?
DEVON This is my tactless sister Drew, this is Lavinia, I thought she might be able to help.
DREW I think we're better off keeping the matter private.
LAVINIA I'm not with the police, I run my own detective agency. I'm very discreet.
DEVON I'm bet you are
DREW Let's just get down to business please Devon.
FX SOUNDS OF SECRUITY TAPES BEING LOADED, PLAYED, PAUSED, FAST FORWARDED ETC. UNDER DIALOGUE
DREW Take a look at the CCTV, at 9:43pm there was an explosion on the Hurricane coaster and knocked the train off its tracks but luckily no one was hurt.
FX LOADS ANOTHER TAPEDREW Then, about ten minutes later the Ghost Rider veered off the tracks taking six petrified passengers with it. No one was injured, just shocked insurance claims.
DEVON Technical problems on one ride is bad enough, but two accidents in one night?
LAVINIA An explosion isn't an accident.
DEVON Come on Drew, we ignored those tapes and look what happened.
DREW I think you'll find you ignored those tapes, I told you to pay him off from the start.
LAVINIA Are you going to let me in on this?
DEVON We received a tape from someone saying that we had to pay them money to prevent any incidences occurring in the park.
LAVINIA And you didn't call the police or tell any of your security staff?
DEVON I can't afford the bad publicity, we've got a new ride opening at the end of the week and who's going to come to a theme park if there's a risk of being blown apart?
LAVINIA But you can't keep information like that a secret, there has to be some kind of investigation to catch them, they didn't kill anyone this time but what about the next time?
DREW Look lady, you don't know anything about what's going on here, why don't you go home and polish your magnifying glass?
DEVON Lavinia, my dad ran this business for thirty years. Nothing like this happened in his lifetime, I've only been in charge here five minutes and I'm already in over my head.
LAVINIA How much capital do they want?
DEVON Fifty K. to prevent any "further incidents".
DREW That barely makes a dent in your inheritance, why don't you just pay him off?
DEVON Why should I? Dad would never break under pressure.
LAVINIA Are there any suspects?
DREW Devon's sacked a few losers; it could any number of them.
DEVON That's not fair Drew, you know I didn't have any choice but to do that. If we wanted to get that new ride open we had to cut costs somewhere.
LAVINIA Look, if you're going to insist on fighting this battle yourself, I'd like to offer my services; I have a team of staff all trained for situations like this.
DEVON Drew we have to get some help on this and if you insist on not calling the police we should let her help us, we can't do it on our own.
DREW The moment you call in the police all that stuff will come out.
DEVON No police, this one's over to you Lavinia.
LAVINIA It'll cost you £300 per eight-hour day plus expenses.
DEVON Whatever it takes.
LAVINIA Let me just make one phone call.

NAZ Damn spam junk mail.
JADE What's wrong?
NAZ I keep getting these stupid emails from a 'Secret Admirer'.
JADE It's probably just junk from a dating agency.
NAZ But I get four or five a day I even got flowers delivered to me the other day; I made them take them back because they wouldn't tell me who sent them.
JADE Maybe you really do have a secret admirer then?
NAZ Chance would be a fine thing.
JADE Did Lav tell anyone what this was about?
NAZ I just got an instant message on my laptop asking me to drop what I was doing.
JADE It must be pretty serious the.
NAZ You're right, we're just like the Mystery Inc. gang from Scooby Doo; by day we're ordinary citizens then we come together to fight crime.
STING I personally see myself as Batman, so what's going on? It's pretty late at night to be calling us up isn't it? I had to leave that surveillance job to get here.
JADE That's what we were just talking about; maybe Lav wants us to do a background check on him!
FX PHONE RINGSNAZ Hey Lavinia, what's the deal? Sure, I'll put you on speakerphone.
FX PUTS PHONE ON RECEIVER
JADE How did the date go Lav?
LAVINIA He took me for sushi.

LAVINIA What are you guys doing in the office so late?
NAZ We got an instant message from you to be here.
LAVINIA No you didn't, I was calling to leave a voicemail for you all.
NAZ The message is right here in front of me Lav.
LAVINA It doesn't matter, I need you guys to get to Fantasy Island a.s.a.p, bring as much equipment you can get into the van; this is a strange one.
STING What about the cases we're already working on?
LAVININA They'll have to go on the back burner for the time being, this is too important.
NAZ When do you want us there?
LAVINIA How does now sound?
STING We're on it Lavinia.

SAB. (D) ISimple Simon says you must deliver 50k in cash to the drop off point of my choice. Failure to do this will result in further accidents at the park and they will continue until I have gotten my money. Understand?
FX TAPE CLICKS OFF
JADE Wow, that's heavy stuff.
DREW I thought you were big time detectives who'd seen everything?
JADE More than you can even imagine.
STING Shouldn't you be calling in the police or even the government? This is a big case, even for us.
DEVON Like I told Lavinia, I don't want to draw any unwanted attention to this.
DREW For goodness sake Devon, just throw some money at the situation and make it go away.
DEVON It's not that easy Drew.
DREW Yes it really is, stop being such a sap.
DEVON Haven't you got somewhere else you should be?
DREW Ok, I'm going, but this is far from over.
FX DREW STORMS OUT OF ROOM SLAMMING DOOR
DEVON Excuse her, she's a little high strung.
NAZ I hate to make a bad situation even worse but you're bugged.
DEVON What are you talking about?
NAZ This is the Interceptor 3000, it's picking up on devices installed in this room; he can hear everything. Sting's right, you'd be wise to call in a higher power here.
FX PHONE RINGS
DEVON Yeah what? Look, I don't know who you think you are but ok it's him, he wants me to put the call on speakerphone so you can hear.
FX PUTS PHONE BACK ON RECEIVER
DEVON Go ahead, they can hear you.
SAB. (D) I told you not to mess with me Devon, all you had to do was give the money but you had to call in the famous four to stick their noses in.
DEVON They offered to help me.
SAB. (D) I don't want to hear it, just do what I tell you; you wouldn't more of your precious patrons to get hurt would you? My demand are still the same, but to make it a little more sporting, I want red there to make the drop.
JADE Oh my god, he's watching us.
