You are marked as a director, a producer and as a sound designer.
The following detailed division of marks for the soap is a guide only - you will get an overall mark with detailed notes. These marking notes will inform you just how you have been marked.
The marking will make the best of your strengths.
That is why the chart below is only a guide.
For example, if you display a lot of technical ability and creativity in your post-production, then a higher proportion of the marking overall goes to that.
Ditto your directing. So the post-production could be as much as 50% of your mark or even higher.

You are marked on your overall creativity - your style for each episode and the whole clump. Please be careful about logic problems.

Your design of the episode in relation to your clump of five episodes..... Sense of pace: Keeping the pace up in a scene and in the whole episode, and overall. End of scene - usually each scene needs to end with a 'lift' - with some ongoing urgency - though not always. This is a matter above all of scripting. What use have you made of the cliffhanger? Some overall design issues and your use of radio drama techniques:
How the scenes follow on each other how the pace is distributed through the episode how the pace builds towards the end and possibly a cliffhanger your use of scene boundaries (music bridge, Archers fade, straight cut, crossfade etc.)
use of music (underscoring and as music bridge, as FX etc.)
choice of music - standards? current? ironic?
use of perspective (approaches to and moving away from the microphone, balancing dialogue against atmos) your overall design of the sound centre fixed sound centre and moving sound centre appropriate use of neutral atmos montage and other advanced design techniques ending of each episode and your clump use of atmos (wildtrack etc.) signposting - techniques for establishing the scene

This is a situation comedy soap - so do you take the comedy option when you should?
Have you lost out on this in a particular instance?
Have you over-used it?
Have you expressed the thriller genre aspects of the whole or in a particular scene? (This will often come out in the acting.) Are there serious moments? What is your mix of genres?
Use of farce - sometimes difficult to get the build right and the mix. You need to build up to the farce explosion. You need to extend the farce explosion often - so that the listeners can grasp it and enjoy it.
SOME LOGIC PROBLEMS:
Characters' voices are not correctly balanced in the sound picture scripting problems - some point of plot not explained enough for the listener to grasp or not explained at all some omission of plot or of production (a gap where something ought to be so make sense of the scene) a contradiction in the plot a contradiction in the construction of the sound picture and perspective a contradiction in the use or under-use of FX or Spot
Your work as a DIRECTOR - working with actors.
In your critique:
Identify which are scripting problems - or acting - or production - or post-production.
Some problems that could be identified in the marking notes by Teacher:
Lack of confidence here - the scenes are more like separate beads on a string than an overall design for the whole episode, and an overall sense of unity and creative individuality through the whole clump.
Dialogue and atmos are not in proper balance.
Music bridge not brought in high enough or too high a volume.
Music underscoring not balanced correctly through the scene or under a sequence of dialogue.
You have not balanced the atmos against the dialogue properly.
Blasting or popping.
Microphone is thumped. Wind on the microphone in an OB.

The soap has to conform to BBC Producers' Guidelines, and the teacher is Editor, with absolute right of decision making.
Notes for your critique:
In your detailed notes on the production and post-production of the soap scenes, you have to use technical vocabulary (as perspective, 'we go with', atmos, acoustic, etc.)
You have to refer precisely to each scene as needed, by the overall agreed numbering system for the whole soap (otherwise confusion).
Example - 1.1.1, 6.5.2
Do get this right! Do not leave out a scene or confuse the order.
You have to use the agreed name for your clump - at all times - labelling the CD, on your critique, labelling everything.
You have to explain - as needed- how you would bring this to a higher level. This is so important - it is a crucial part of your learning and you showing how you are learning.
NOTE: Please buy a permanent marking pen, for you to label CDs correctly (name of project, your name, length of piece).
